How Chrissy is advancing her nursing career at 54
When Chrissy Knott completed her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program as a full-time working single parent at age 41, she proved that educational ambitions have no age limit. Today at 54, she is continuing her education through self-paced TRU Open Learning courses toward a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies to prepare for an LPN-to-RN bridging program.
Balancing her early nursing credentials with everyday life was far from simple. Managing home, work, and school often felt overwhelming. “However, I stayed committed, persevered through the challenges, and never gave up on my goal,” Chrissy shared. It may not always be easy, but by believing in yourself, staying committed, and moving forward, you can achieve things that once felt out of reach.
Now taking the next step in her healthcare career, Chrissy relies on thoughtful planning to balance self-paced study with shift work. She uses a personalized calendar to set study times, map assignment deadlines, and keep herself accountable without a rigid classroom schedule. Equal importance is given to rest, recharge time, and her support network of friends and family.
Her message to fellow learners and prospective students is simple but powerful:
Never let your age convince you that it is too late. It is never too late to go back to school, learn something new, or work toward a goal you are passionate about. My journey has taught me that education has no age limit.
